A Safe Place to Work, Grow, and Thrive

“My life was hell.” ~Mala

For the estimated 9,000 women stuck in the brothels in Delhi, their journey started with the hopes of escaping poverty or abuse and pursuing a better life. Instead, they were sold into an existence of exploitation and control.

  • Physical Control

“People don’t use condoms and they spread HIV/AIDS. Women on their periods and pregnant women still have to work. Only days after a woman delivers a baby she has to perform sex work. I was sick all the time and had so much body pain.” ~ Jyoti

  • Economic Control

“They took all the money that I earned…ALL the money. For five years I didn’t get any money because I had to pay the owner everything I earned. If I ever tried to hide some money, they would beat me. They told me I need to earn and there is no escape.” ~Raziya

  • Social-Emotional Control

“We were not allowed to go outside. We got our necessities inside the brothel. Sellers visited on a regular basis for cosmetics, cloths, and food. I was forced to do whatever I was told. I tried to escape and I couldn’t. They beat me so badly.” ~Mala
